Mark Manson on Finding Purpose and Meaning in the Age of AI
This morning, I’m sharing an inspiring and thought-provoking conversation I recently had with Mark Manson, theNew York Times bestselling author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck and Everything Is F*cked: A Book About Hope.
I’ve been following Mark for years and I’ve always admired the way he cuts through the noise and asks deeper questions about purpose, values, and what it actually takes to live a meaningful life. What struck me most during our conversation was how clearly and honestly he speaks to people across generations, from those my age to young men and women in my kids’ generation and beyond.
This past week, Mark unveiled his latest project: a new app called Purpose. Purpose uses AI to help guide people of all ages toward greater clarity, meaning, and direction in their lives. Mark told me that recent surveys show more than 300 million people are already turning to AI to ask deeply personal life questions. And yet, most AI tools aren’t designed or trained to respond thoughtfully. That’s where Mark hopes Purpose can help.
I’ve always been drawn to thinkers who are willing to sit with the complexity of being human rather than offering easy answers. Mark is asking many of the same questions I hear around my own dinner table, and he’s inviting people to dig into those questions rather than run away from them. These are exactly the kinds of conversations I want to be having right now and sharing with you, so I hope you’ll take a listen. After you do, please let me know what you think.
Love,
Maria
