Beatrice Dixon is an entrepreneurial dynamo who still seems to be in her creative first bloom.

It’s not just that Dixon’s work—as the CEO of the revered feminine care brand The Honey Pot Company—has given the wellness space a jolt of radical honesty. It’s also that she’s shown how leading with a deep-in-your-bones intuition is the smartest approach to creating a meaningful business and life.

The proof is in Dixon’s journey. As she recounts in her new book, The Soul Instinct, her own health obstacles inspired her to start her company. For years, she struggled with unbearable issues and found no relief. Then, one night, she received unexpected spiritual insight that gave her the answer.

She listened. And everything changed.

The guidance she received? Dixon shares more about that below. For now, I’ll just say that when I connected with her over Zoom, a warmth took over. There was no room for small talk. As she shared about the catharsis she found in writing her book, forging her career, and facing adversity, her energy was put toward saying what’s real—and human.

As these five pieces of wisdom from our conversation show, life often sends us signs. Dixon says it's up to us to pay attention.

#1: The Best Things in Life Are Often the Hardest

“My mom always taught me, most things that are worth having—whether that be success, whether that be a relationship, whether that be a friendship—are probably not going to come to you with ease,” says Dixon. “Not that everything in life is hard, but normally, the things that are worth it and worth fighting for are the things that have ups and downs.”

#2: We Have Strength in Our Soul

Dixon was born premature, without a nose or a fully formed forehead. Her little body suffered from a “host of medical issues” because of injuries sustained in the womb, she writes. But still, she was powerful. “Even though it wasn't fully developed, and I came early, the soul that was inside of me was strong,” she says.

“I believe before we come into a body, we're coming from heaven. So the body that I chose and the mother that I chose, I feel like everything was in order, even though there has been a lot of adversity,” she continues. “I came into this world fighting for my life, but I came into this life strong.”

#3: There’s Power in Listening to the Signs

Dixon launched her feminine care business, The Honey Pot Company, in 2014. She had no family or investment money to pull from, nor a fancy business degree. But she did have a ton of will, iron-clad intuition, and a need.

Throughout her youth and early adulthood, Dixon struggled. She hustled for numerous odd jobs and faced homelessness, racism, and poverty.  All the while, she suffered from a common vaginal issue for which she found zero relief. Then one night, one of her late relatives sent her a message in a dream: a list of natural ingredients to help her issue. The relative repeated the ingredients and then yelled, “Wake up!!!!” Soon after, Dixon learned that it was her maternal grandmother sending her a sign to start a product. That message is what prompted her to start the Honey Pot Company.

These days, Dixon stays open to the messages around her. That “soul instinct” is how she operates, and she urges others to keep themselves open, too. “Because listening to the signs isn't always about a spirit coming and whispering in your ear,” she admits. “Sometimes listening to the signs is having an awareness about what you really want and how you want to build your life, and paying attention to that.”

#4: Writing Is a Portal to Knowing Ourselves

There is an indefinable power to putting our stories to paper, something Dixon felt while writing The Soul Instinct with the support of her dear friend, Rachel Bertsche. “What I really loved about writing this book with her was how cathartic it was and how ease-ful she made it feel,” she says. “Eventually, the chapters came together, and the pieces came together. It gives me chills [thinking about it] because it felt so cathartic to just be able to say it—because sometimes you forget the things that you've gone through.”

The entire experience was open and raw. “I wanted to tell real stories and create real connections, because I don't really know how to do things differently than that. I can be very intimate. And so the book reflected that.”

#5: Our Calling Is to Enjoy This Life

Grabbing the beauty this life holds is part of how Dixon honors what she’s learned from her relatives. “That can mean a lot of things. It can mean watching my British whodunit TV show. It could mean enjoying my morning coffee routine. It could mean an innovation call with my team. It could be a multitude of things. I want to feel good in the endeavors that I'm involved in,” she says. “I want to feel flow.”

Every hardship has prepared her for the moment, she continues. “So, it feels like a salute to my ancestors” to always be in deep gratitude. “We really need to live our lives knowing that we are going to die,” says Dixon.
