For Black Adam, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s latest film, the action star had to get into the best shape of his life. Now you may be wondering (as we did here at The Sunday Paper): How could The Rock be in any better shape? The truth is, Johnson is in the impeccable physical condition he’s known for—even better than when he was a pro wrestler—but he’s also in unparalleled mental, spiritual, and emotional shape. “How I find balance is by making sure that I still remain in touch with the simple core things that are important to me,” he tells Men’s Health.

Johnson is now 50 and he says he’s started to lean into his vulnerability. “I think one of the defining, seminal moments in my life was when I really realized the power and the value of asking for help,” he continues. The action star believes that asking for help is a common issue for men. “Ego gets in the way, and we start stuffing things deep down in our guts, which is not a good thing,” he says. “I’ve become an advocate for asking for help.”

Hearing such true vulnerability from a male public figure deserves applause. The same goes for Johnson’s other life lessons, which he divulges in this Men’s Health article. We encourage you to read more about the wisdom Johnson has gained as he’s aged.

And we’d love to know: How has growing older given you a greater wisdom around vulnerability? Let us know in the comments below!
