In the new documentary Stutz, actor Jonah Hill puts the spotlight on his longtime psychiatrist Phil Stutz. The documentary is simple in form: Hill and Stutz chat about therapy, mental health, and the psychotherapeutic tools Stutz is known for. Yet the overarching theme is anything but simple. It is brave, raw, deep, honest, and needed.

Hill divulges early in the film that Stutz has been a critical part in his mental health care journey—and that is why he wanted to share Stutz’s wisdom with the world. Stutz has a deep-yet-accessible approach to helping people based on his visualization techniques, which he calls ‘The Tools.’ He works to help people gain clarity and overcome blocks to work toward lasting, positive change. And he helped Hill do just this.

What we love most about this documentary is a combination: Hill is vulnerable and raw in his desire to share lasting mental health tools with the world. And Stutz is gentle and forthcoming. Combined, the two men offer a generosity that is needed in this world.

You can read more about Hill’s learnings with Stutz in this SELF article. And you can watch the documentary on Netflix here.

Question from the Editor: How do you feel the conversation about mental health needs to change or evolve today?
