At The Sunday Paper, we want to inspire you to gather at your table—virtually or with friends and family—and open your heart and mind to conversations that will move the needle. After all, the dinner table is where we connect on topics and map out the changes we can all make that’ll truly make an impact.

This week, to encourage your conversations, we recommend checking out the following:

What We're Reading:

Journalist Mike Mariani explores the nuances and largely uncharted territory of what happens after one's life is severed into a before and after. Through tracing the lives of six people who experienced profoundly life-changing events, including himself battling chronic illness, Mariani reveals our endless capacity for reinvention. We recommend checking this book out. What Doesn't Kill Us Makes Us: Who We Become After Tragedy and Trauma.

What We're Watching:

Today, our nation mourns the devastating attacks on the World Trade Center that happened on September 11, 2001. CNN Films’ documentary 9/11 details minute-by-minute what happened on the day and features stories of those who became first responders after losing their loved ones.

On Monday, we will tune into the Emmy Awards.

What We're Cooking:

In their new cookbook, Be A Plant-Based Woman Warrior: Live Fierce, Stay Bold, Eat Delicious, Jane Esselstyn and her mother Ann Crile Esselstyn focus on how plants can support your body and mind, and how a healthy diet can even help to reverse diseases.

The Esselstyns have created several dairy-free and meat-free recipes that you can make in your own home, from Apple Flax Flapjacks to Sweet Potato and Cashew Ricotta Lasagna. You can find the recipe to their delicious Plant-Based Pad Thai below:
