What We’re Reading

Award-winning professor and songwriter Alice Randall offers a deep account of her search for the roots of Black country music in My Black Country: A Journey through Country Music's Past, Present, and Future. With her poetic prose and inquisitive reporting, Randall has created a book that gives the world a powerful look at the Black influence on one of the most popular genres of American music and American culture at large. Like Beyoncé's new country album, these pages expand the true history of a popular and culture-changing art form.

What We’re Watching

You likely know Larry David: the Seinfeld-creating, hilarious comedic writer whom the New York Times deemed "the world's most comfortable and uncomfortable man." David has made audiences near and far laugh for decades, most recently with this hit series, 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' where he walks into the most banal and hilarious moments a human can find oneself. Tonight marks the show's finale, and we will watch it with un-curbed enthusiasm (had to). We expect to laugh, but we don't expect David to send us off with a warm hug. Still, we can't wait.

We've tuning into The Baxters, an ensemble family drama based on the bestselling novels from Karen Kingsbury, that follows Elizabeth and John Baxter, and their adult children, as they navigate life's highs and lows, both with and without God.

We also can't wait for tonight's finale match-up of the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament. Thanks to the unparalleled talent, including Caitlin Clark, viewership of this series has been off the charts, giving long-overdue reverence to women's sports. The national championship game is set for the 2024 NCAA DI women's basketball tournament, as No. 1 South Carolina faces No. 1 Iowa for the title. The unbeaten Gamecocks and Hawkeyes meet at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 7 on ABC for the title. Last year, Iowa upset an undefeated South Carolina team in the Final Four. Are you tuning in?

What We’re Listening to

Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler manage to make life's darkest feats fun to listen to. In their new podcast, the actors and friends talk candidly about life curveballs, including doubt, illness, and family issues. They each open up about their diagnoses but with a decidedly humorous spin. "We are two actresses who have this really fun sidebar called Multiple Sclerosis," quips Christina Applegate.

"But this isn't a show that's just gonna be about MS," adds Sigler. "We're gonna have so many laughs. Some cries [...] We're all just trying to make it through." We're all ears.
