Sunday Paper Recommends—Week of June 7, 2026
This week at The Sunday Paper, we're sharing a new book, playlist, and tv series that we believe will add inspiration to your days. We hope these suggestions open your heart and mind and encourage you to come together for meaningful conversations.
What We’re Watching
Tom Loftis has a plan: transform his sleepy New England island into the kind of place tourists actually want to visit. The only problem? The locals keep insisting the whole place is cursed—and they’re not entirely wrong. Emmy winner Matthew Rhys stars in this delightfully unsettling horror-comedy as the mayor who refuses to believe the legends, even as centuries-old evils begin making themselves impossible to ignore. Widow’s Bay, from creator Katie Dippold and director Hiro Murai, balances genuine scares with laugh-out-loud comedy, and a cast that makes every moment worth watching. Stream the new series now on Apple TV+.
What We’re Also Watching
Broadway’s biggest night is this Sunday, and the 79th Annual Tony Awards are bringing it. P!nk takes the stage as host for a star-studded evening celebrating the best of the 2025–2026 Broadway season. Watch performances from every Best Musical and Best Revival nominee, including the sparkling, can’t-miss spectacles from The Lost Boys, Schmigadoon!, and Titanique. Tune in tonight at 8 p.m. ET on CBS or Paramount+.
What We’re Reading
Leave it to Ann Patchett to find a whole lifetime of love in a chance encounter at a museum. In Whistler, her deeply moving tenth novel, Daphne Fuller crosses paths with the former stepfather she adored, then lost, at age nine. It's intimate, quietly devastating, and full of the love between people who almost let go of each other entirely. Patchett has said she wrote the book in grief, missing a close friend, and putting those feelings into profoundly tender words. You’ll want to add Whistler to the top of your summer reading list.
What We’re Listening To
You might be hearing this playlist everywhere—it’s even Elton John approved. Off Campus, Prime Video’s addictive new hockey romance adapted from Elle Kennedy’s bestselling books, is as much about music as it is about love. Hannah is a songwriter; Garrett is a hockey star; and the playlist that ties their world together is a glorious mix of modern indie and classic throwbacks that’ll have you hitting repeat. From Billy Idol to Lady Gaga, there is something for everyone on here. Listen to the official playlist now on Spotify, and stream all episodes of Off Campus on Prime Video.
What We're Making
Ginger-Buffalo Wings
I think that grilled wings are wildly underrated, since deep-fried ones seem to get all the attention. May I present these grilled wings, cooked over a two-zone fire until juicy and tender with crispy edges and bits of blackening. (Not for nothing, they are also a lot better for you when they aren’t submerged in fry oil.) These are tossed in a Buffalo sauce steeped in ginger, garlic, and a touch of soy sauce. This is peak backyard party food.
You are more than welcome to eat them with blue cheese or ranch, but I find that grilled wings eat much lighter and don’t need it.
Serves: 4 to 6

Ingredients:
24 medium chicken party wings (a mix of flats and drumettes, or your preference), about 2 pounds
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
8 tablespoons (4 ounces/1 stick) unsalted butter
½ cup hot sauce (ideally Frank’s RedHot)
3 ounces fresh ginger, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
¼ teaspoon soy sauce
Directions:
- Set up a two-zone fire. If grilling with gas, set one side to high heat and the other to low heat. Clean and oil the grates well.
- Season the wings well with salt and pepper and lay them on the cooler side of the grill until they are cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F, about 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile (or you can do this in advance), in a small saucepan, combine the butter, hot sauce, ginger, garlic, and soy sauce. Bring it to a bubble over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Pour the sauce through a fine-mesh strainer into a large bowl.
- Once the wings are at 165°F, transfer them to the hot side of the grill and cook them, turning frequently, until they are golden brown with bits of charring all over, 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer them directly to the bowl of ginger Buffalo sauce and toss to combine. Serve immediately.
